The OB Dolphin Cichlid is a colorful aquarium variety of the Dolphin Cichlid, prized for its distinctive orange blotch (OB) pattern that combines splashes of orange, black, blue, and white into a unique marbled appearance. No two fish display the same markings, making each individual truly one of a kind.
Known for its graceful swimming style and characteristic rounded forehead, the OB Dolphin is an active and intelligent cichlid that thrives in spacious aquariums with sandy substrate, rock formations, and plenty of open swimming areas. As it matures, the prominent nuchal hump ("dolphin head") becomes more pronounced, especially in dominant males.
Typically reaching 20–25 cm (8–10 inches) in length, the OB Dolphin is generally more peaceful than many other African cichlids, making it a suitable addition to larger Malawi community aquariums with compatible tankmates. It is omnivorous and benefits from a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, supplemented with vegetable matter and occasional protein-rich foods.
With its striking coloration, engaging personality, and graceful presence, the OB Dolphin Cichlid is a standout centerpiece that brings both beauty and character to any African cichlid aquarium.
