The Bicolor Peacock Cichlid is a beautiful Aulonocara variety admired for its striking two-tone coloration and elegant appearance. Known for its vibrant contrast of colors—often displaying combinations of deep blues, bright yellows, oranges, reds, or metallic hues—the Bicolor Peacock showcases the refined beauty and graceful presence that make peacock cichlids so popular among African cichlid keepers.
Typically growing to 15–18 cm (6–7 inches), the Bicolor Peacock is an active yet relatively peaceful Lake Malawi cichlid. It thrives in aquariums with sandy substrate, rock formations, and plenty of open swimming space. Like other peacock cichlids, it is best kept with similarly sized, compatible haps and peacocks in a well-maintained aquarium.
Mature males often develop the most intense coloration, especially when displaying, while females tend to have more subtle tones. Providing high-quality water conditions, adequate space, and a balanced diet helps bring out the best coloration and natural behavior of this fish.
An omnivore, the Bicolor Peacock benefits from a varied diet of premium cichlid pellets, spirulina-based foods, and occasional protein-rich treats such as krill or mysis shrimp. Proper nutrition supports vibrant coloration, healthy growth, and long-term well-being.
With its eye-catching color contrast, peaceful temperament, and graceful swimming style, the Bicolor Peacock Cichlid makes an excellent centerpiece fish for a colorful and carefully planned Lake Malawi aquarium.
