The Golden Peacock Cichlid is a stunning Lake Malawi peacock known for its brilliant golden-yellow coloration, graceful appearance, and peaceful personality. A favorite among African cichlid keepers, this Aulonocara variety displays a radiant metallic sheen that gives it a warm, eye-catching presence in any aquarium.
Typically reaching 15–18 cm (6–7 inches) in length, the Golden Peacock thrives in aquariums with sandy substrate, rock formations, and plenty of open swimming space. Like other peacock cichlids, it is generally calmer than many Malawi species and is best housed with other compatible peacocks, haps, and similarly sized cichlids.
Mature males develop the most intense coloration, often displaying rich gold, yellow, and orange tones with subtle blue accents around the face and fins. Females tend to have more subdued silver or brown coloration but maintain the elegant body shape and engaging behavior that make peacock cichlids so popular.
An omnivore, the Golden Peacock benefits from a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, spirulina-based foods, and occasional protein-rich treats such as krill or mysis shrimp. Maintaining excellent water quality, proper filtration, and a nutritious diet will help enhance its natural colors and support healthy growth.
With its glowing golden hues, peaceful temperament, and graceful swimming style, the Golden Peacock Cichlid is a beautiful centerpiece fish that adds warmth, elegance, and vibrant color to any Lake Malawi aquarium.
