The OB Borleyi Hap Cichlid, also known as the Orange Blotch Borleyi, is a stunning selectively bred variety of the popular Copadichromis borleyi from Lake Malawi. It combines the graceful body shape and peaceful nature of the Borleyi Hap with the striking Orange Blotch (OB) pattern, creating a fish with brilliant mixes of orange, red, blue, and dark markings. Each individual displays its own unique color pattern, making every fish truly one of a kind.
Growing to approximately 15–20 cm (6–8 inches), the OB Borleyi Hap is an active but generally peaceful cichlid that enjoys open swimming areas, sandy substrate, and rock structures for shelter. Mature males can develop intense coloration, often displaying vibrant orange-red highlights with shimmering blue tones, especially when displaying or breeding.
Unlike many more aggressive Malawi species, the OB Borleyi Hap is known for its calmer temperament and can be kept with other compatible haps, peacock cichlids, and similarly sized Lake Malawi species. It is best maintained in a spacious aquarium with excellent filtration and stable water conditions.
An omnivore by nature, this cichlid thrives on a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, spirulina-based foods, and occasional protein-rich offerings such as krill or mysis shrimp. A balanced diet helps enhance its coloration and supports healthy growth.
With its peaceful personality, elegant swimming style, and incredible OB coloration, the OB Borleyi Hap Cichlid is a beautiful and unique centerpiece fish for any Lake Malawi aquarium.
